ACE Bear Gillam #1 - Openings for 2009
Our first choice would
be to have you in our Gillam camps if possible.
A family owned business, operating full time since 1992. This is
a relatively new camp and has proven itself well
for the past few years. An exclusive area of 1000 sq. miles of
virgin bush boasting one of the highest concentrations of black
bears in Manitoba. We continue to have 100% opportunity since
1992, 25% record book bear and 30% - 35% color phase bears.
Spring 2002/2003/2004: 50% of the bears measuring 6'+ and a few
7'+. Fall 2002: 6 hunters took 6 bears. 3 archery, 3 rifle, 3
colored, 3 black. Fall 2003/2004:100% shooting, average weight
400 lbs. 2001: 7'3”+ chocolate bear taken in south camp. Fall
north camp 2 bears in one night broke camp records - one 7'8"
weighed approx 700 lbs, the other 7'6" weighed approx 575 lbs.
Both areas produce excellent bears in size, color and quality.
South camp offers May hunts; north camp offers June hunts; due
to later spring. Fall hunting and excellent fishing is available
at both camps. Baits remain in place year round and we feed the
bears between 16 and 18 tons of bait annually. Hunt with rifle,
archery or black powder (60% of hunters are bowhunters). Modern
comfortable accommodations with excellent meals, guiding, trophy care,
license and taxes are included. Thompson is 525 miles north of
the US border by paved highway or by daily commercial flights.
Gillam is past Thompson, at the “end of the road”, in pristine
wilderness where the bears thrive near (and in) the village as
well as at 40 baits throughout these vast areas of “virgin
territories. Baits with sturdy, permanent stands and ladders
remain baited 12 months of the year (the bears only frequent
site Apr to Oct). With only 2 to 4 hunters in camp there are 16
baits not being hunted any given evening. We traditionally run
10 hunts over a 3 week period in May in South camp and
then run 10 - 12 hunts over the first 3 weeks in June in North
camp. For fall we run 4 hunts from South camp and then run 6
hunts from North camp. Both areas are our exclusive outfitters
allotted area with no competition from other outfitters or
locals. By working on a smaller scale with only about a few
hunters in camp, our son Craig (a City of Winnipeg Firefighter),
who has worked with us since 1992 and Art are able to do most
of the baiting, guiding and bait management. Ellen is in
camp in Gillam as camp cook and in Thompson as camp coordinator and
assistant. This allows for more personal service and great
success. Accommodations at both camps are in modern
comfortable facilities with satellite TV and all the modern conveniences of
home. Fishing is excellent and is just a few minutes from camp.
We encourage you to call our references before making your final
decision. They are listed on our website. Check our references and
photo album.

assured that, because the area is only accessible by floatplane,

Bear Thompson Northwest 3B
New Listing - This listing is under construction but we did not
want to leave it out as they do have a good number of openings for
both Spring and Fall.
This camp is located in a remote area about
100 miles north west of Thompson Manitoba - which is located 525
miles North of the North Dakota/Manitoba US Border. The
outfitter/guide consists of 2 partners - both very knowledgeable of
the area and the hunting and guiding skills. One partner has been
guiding and working in the industry for 30 year for another
successful camp. The other has lived and hunted this area his entire
life. Together they have recently gained access to a DNR allocation
to become the only outfitters in this area. Manitoba is renown for
quality, quantity and color bear. The outfitters both have a proven
track record. A winning combination!! We would like to put you
directly in touch with the camp manager to discuss if this hunt will
fit your needs. This camp has been open for the past years with 100%
success and 305 color bears.
Multiple active baits accessible by road and/or quads are located
within 15 to 45 minutes from camp and are well baited and regularly
monitored from early spring until late fall. Hunters will have the
options to use more than one stand and will be moved as required.
There is NO local hunting pressure for bears due of the extreme
remoteness. The bait activity has been consistently building and the
prospects of excellent hunting with some nice trophies is looking
very promising. Accommodations are in log cabins with generators and
a shower or can be in the local village in modern comfortable house
if this is required. This is truly a wilderness experience with
attention to the comforts of the hunters. Accommodation, meals,
taxes, licence, guides, trophy care, baiting and transportation are
included. Commercial flight arrive daily into Thompson. Hunter may
choose to fly into Winnipeg and rent a vehicle for the trip to camp
